There are some mysterious places on earth that will make you feel like you’re living under curse because those places that seem so terrifying . Aokigahara is one of those places. It is a forest which lies under the shadow of Mount Fuji in Japan . This mysterious forest is known as ‘Suicide Forest’ . This place is world’s second most popular suicide location . It is a forest which is covered in death.
Aokigahara , a 14 square mile area which is located on the northwestern flank of Mount Fuji on the island of Honshu in Japan . It’s locally known as ‘Jukai’ (Sea of trees) because the density of trees are very high here . Aokigahara's western edge serves as a popular tourist and school trip site since there are multiple caves there that freeze over in the winter . The most popular cave among the tourists are the Ice Cave and the Wind Cave . All this may seem very majestic; however, looks can be deceiving . This place is mainly known as the leading suicide site .
A lots of people who entered the forest with the intention to not coming back from the place . At the entrance , there are signs that remind the visitors that their lives are precious and to think of their family . Also at the bottom of the signs there are some number given for suicide hotline . The signs contain by saying that,“Please reconsider, think carefully about your children and your family,” and “Your life is a precious gift from your parents. Think about them and the rest of your family. You don’t have to suffer alone, please consult the police before you decide to die!”
It is said by the local people that Aokigahara is a place where people used to practice 'ubasute' - taking an elderly or sick relative to a remote area and leaving them to die . Ubasute may have been practised there into the nineteenth century . According to the local believes that the forest is haunted by the victims of ubasute . They are referred to as yurei (ghosts who died violently and unnaturally , as well as demons) , and they have evolved into vengeful ghosts who are ceaselessly roaming the twisted trees . The area is also believed to be haunted by tengu (bird-like demons) , and some tourists have reported seeing white ethereal entities gliding through the forest . Some of the tourists often report hearing bloodcurdling , unnatural screams in the forest . It is believed that yurei is responsible for this uneven things .
According to an investigation , about 30 people commit suicide there every year. 105 bodies were discovered in the forest in 2003 which breaks the previous high of 78 in 2002. In 2004 , 108 peoples were committed suicide . In 2010 , the police recorded more than 200 people having attempted suicide in the forest , of whom 54 completed . As of 2011 , the most popular ways to commit suicide in the forest were hanging and drug overdose . In recent years , local officials have stopped publicising the number in attempt to decrease Aokigahara .
