The Traveling Pages
Want to escape without traveling anywhere? Interested in knowing what it was like to live in the past? Any guess what i'm talking about? Yes, of course I'm talking about books. Reading can provide all of this and more for you! So let's drown the world of books.
Reasons Why I Love Reading
To experience different lives/times/cultures: One of the most important benefits of reading is that you can put yourself in different times and learn about different cultures. I often wonder how i would have lived if the times and circumstances were different. Reading also stimulates the imagination.
To Escape: I'm that kind of person who has always wanted to be away from reality. I wonder how did non-readers survive the pandemic? During the pandemic, my reading preferences gravitated toward lighter, more upbeat reading, but i was able to turn the news off and take refuge in books. So lockdown days never felt too dark! Reading offers chair trips and places to go when you have to stay home.
To Experience "Book People Are The Best People" : Have you ever seen someone reading in a coffee shop or on the train and knew you could be friends with that person because they were reading? Readers attract other readers and are the most interesting and thoughtful chatters.
To Enjoy Inexpensive Entertainment: Books are expensive, but there are ways to read them cheaper. Libraries, thrift stores, flea market, small free libraries, kindle deals, Amazon gift card for birthdays etc, are all ways to reduce the cost of buying books. Last year i read 55 books; over 50% books which i bought and another 50% from pdf. The feeling of reading a book in hand cannot be expressed in words. I think watching a movie or having hangout at restaurant costs more than buying a book.
Helps to Lead Many Lives in one Lifetime: When i read a book i get immersed in every character in that book. Everything seems to be happening before my eyes. Reading makes me both laugh and cry. I got lost exactly where i wanted to get lost. Where would i have met so many people in one life without books?
My Favourite genre and books
When i was a child, i loved fairy tales. Then when i started growing up i realized that there are more to read than fairy tales. There are few types of genre they are Action, Comedy, Fantasy, Horror, Mystery, Romance, Thriller, Fiction, Non-fiction, Historical, Sci-fi and so on.
My all time favourite genre are fiction, mystery, thriller, comedy and romance. I choose genre depending on my mental state.
If i sit down to write about my favourite books, it won't end. Actually this list has no end. So my top 10 favourite books are given below;

This is the picture of some collection of mine. Whenever i stand in front of the bookshelf, calmness flows in my mind. Who said money can't buy happiness? Sometimes it can just look at them.
Movie adaptation of books have given life to many stories. Many of the world's best movies started as ideas in talented author's mind.
The famous movies based on books
The Godfather by Mario Puzo
Every crime drama fan should watch this cult
and Academy Award-winning classic about italian
mafia
To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee
A thrilling movie based on a highly regarded classic
often read in high schools and middle schools.
The Harry Potter series by J.K.Rowling
A sequence of eight movies based on the legendary
book series, starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.
Little Women
This book has been adapted for film seven times.
The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris
Anthony Hopkins plays Hannibal Lecture, who
famously asks Jodi Foster's character, "Well,
Clarie..have the lambs stopped screaming?" If you
don’t know what that means, there’s only one way
find out.
I just add only 5 movies that adapted from books. Amazing right!
When Emma Thompson said, "I think books are like people, in the sense that they'll turn up in your life when you most need them." And i felt that.
"It is really hard to be lonely very long in a world of words. Even if you don’t have friends somewhere, you still have language, and it will find you and wrap its little syllables around you and suddenly there will be a story to live in" - Naomi Shihab Nye
I believe when Frederick Douglass said, "Once you learn to read, you will be forever free."
Tendency about books in Modern Generation
Reading books is slowly disappearing from society in the modern era. As a source of information, social media sites like Facebook and Twitter have supplanted traditional media. People are growing more curious about who is saying this and what they are trying to say. We seem to be surrounded by a sea of viewpoints. Others have turned to enjoying literature through films, dramas, and television shows. While there is nothing wrong with embracing modern technology, we must never lose sight of more traditional practices like reading books in their paperback versions and recording our thoughts on a piece of paper.
The younger generation today is less concerned with developing habits and more concerned with keeping up with the latest fashions. (https://www.depedmalaybalay.net/articles/challenging-todays-generation-to-establish-the-habit-of-reading-books.html)
Why should everyone read books?
People who read books live longer
According to 3,635 older adults studied by Yale researchers, those who read for 30 minutes every day lived an average of 23 months longer than nonreaders or magazine readers.
Successful people are readers
"The Hard Thing About Hard Things" by Ben Horowitz, "Good to Great" by Jim Collins, and "Losing My Virginity" by Richard Branson are a few books that have appeared on their lists time and time again.
Lowers Stress
Reading has also been proven to lower stress as it increases relaxation. When the brain is fully focused on a single task, like reading, the reader gets to benefit from meditative qualities that reduce stress levels.
Boost Communication skills
Both reading and writing work to improve one's communication skills. That’s why if you’re looking to become a better writer, many of the suggestions that you come across will include reading more.
Helps Self-Exploactivity
Books can be both an escape and an adventure. When you are reading, you have the opportunity to think about things in new ways, learn about cultures, events, and people you may have never otherwise heard of, and can adopt methods of thinking that help to reshape or enhance your identity.
Strengthens Brain activity
Reading is a neurobiological process that works out your brain muscles. Scientists at the University of California, Berkeley have even found that reading reduces the level of beta-amyloid, which is a protein in the brain that is connected to Alzheimer’s.
